Kandy Esala Perahera 2025 Begins Today

Today marks the grand beginning of the Kandy Esala Perahera 2025, one of the most iconic and sacred festivals in Sri Lanka. Held in the historic city of Kandy, this centuries-old procession honors the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, housed in the revered Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth).

The festival, which spans 10 unforgettable nights, is a vibrant display of Sri Lankan tradition, devotion, and artistry. Visitors from around the world are arriving in Kandy to witness the magic of this spiritual and cultural celebration.


✨ What to Expect in the Esala Perahera 2025

From July 30 to August 8, the streets of Kandy will come alive with:

  • Majestic tuskers adorned in lights and silk garments

  • Traditional Kandyan drummers and dancers

  • Flame jugglers, fire dancers, and whip crackers

  • Sacred casket bearers and temple guardians

The first five nights feature the Kumbal Perahera, a more intimate version of the procession, while the final five nights showcase the Randoli Perahera, the most elaborate and grand part of the festival.
