Sri Lanka has recorded its highest-ever tourist arrivals for the month of May, welcoming 132,919 visitors in May 2025. This breaks the previous May record of 129,466 set in 2018.
The number of tourists increased by 18.5% compared to May 2024 and by 2.7% over May 2018, showing strong growth in the tourism sector.
India was the top source of tourists, sending 47,001 visitors — 35.4% of the total. The UK, China, Bangladesh, and Germany were also among the leading countries.
Tourism officials say the growth is due to better promotions, easier visa processes, and more flight options. The strong numbers are a positive sign for Sri Lanka’s economy and tourism recovery.
With more tourists expected in the coming months, the country is on track for a successful year in tourism.
